According to DeWayne Hamlin, Medical Center Director, preregistration for the medical center’s 5th annual Veterans 5k Run/Walk, which is held in advance of Veterans Day, is available now.  The Victory 5K is open to the public.  To preregister, click here. (Keyword “Victory”).

5th Annual Victory 5k Run/Walk
Saturday, November 10, 2012
VA Medical Center – Leestown Division
Race Day Registration: 7:30A
Race: 9:00A
Cost: $20 entry fee, includes commemorative long sleeve dri-fit t-shirt

“This race is dedicated Veterans everywhere,” says Hamlin. “Last year, over 100 individuals from ages 5 years old to 70+ years old honored Veterans by running or walking in the race. The proceeds -over $500 - was used to benefit hospitalized Veterans at the medical center.”

“Our goal this year is to increase awareness and ultimately participation,” states Hamlin.  “5K is only 3.1 miles. We’re hoping the weather will cooperate so it will be a beautiful day for a run or walk.”   Race day is November 10.   Race day registration begins bright and early at 7:30A.  Preregistered entrants are guaranteed a dri-fit shirt.

“Seems that just about everybody has a member of their family who is a Veteran or at least knows someone who is,” says Hamlin.  “The Victory 5k is an active way of thanking Veterans for their service and promotes healthy living.  We invite everyone to participate in this special tribute by running or walking in honor of a Veteran.”
